Class 12: What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is a file storing service that was created by Google. Google Drive can be used to share files, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with others. When you share a file on Google Drive you have the option to allow it to be viewed, edited, or commented on publicly or privately with specific individuals.

Google Drive is very versatile. It can be used to share a number of different items. Another great thing about Google Drive is that their is an app that is available on both Android and Apple devices. Google Drive has become extremely popular since it was created on April 24th, 2012. By October, 2014 Google Drive had 240 million users.

Google Drive provides all users with 15gb of free storage space. Google Drive also has monthly subscription plans that are very affordable and allow a user to have a greater amount of storage space. You can upgrade to 100gb of storage for just $1.99 per month, 1 Terabyte of storage for $9.99 per month, and up to 30 Terabytes of storage for $299.00 per month. Google provides all Google App users with up to 30gb of free storage space.

Google Drive has sections that allow you to see various things. There is a "My Drive" section that stores all of the files you have created, making them easier for you to access. There is a "Shared with me" that stores all of the files that have been shared with you by others. There is a "recent" section that stores all the files you have recently accessed. There is also a "Starred" section that holds all the files which you marked as important and want to be able to access very easily.

Google Drive is a great service that I use often in classes. I really enjoy writing papers or creating presentations and being able to share it with someone else for editing without attaching it to an email or forcing them to download it. Google Drive makes it possible for more then one person to access a file at the same time and edit the content of that file (if given permission by the creator). I have used Google Drive for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations and it is, by far, my favorite file storing service that I have used.
