On Facebook there are many ways to connect with others, whether it be your personal profile, a page that you liked, or a group that you joined. Although similar in some ways, Pages and Groups are very different. In this post I will discuss what a group and a page are as well as the differences between them.

On Facebook, users have the ability to create or like pages. Pages are essentially profiles for companies, athletic teams, television shows, movies, and/or celebrities. Pages are public, which means anyone can access them, Like them, and view their content. When you like a page, you are able to see content published by that particular page on your news feed. You can also see what others comment on that particular page's post. Pages are usually popular and have many followers or likes. Pages are a great way to connect with people who have similar interests as you.

Another way to connect with people on Facebook is by creating or joining a group. The creator of a group can make the group either public or private. Although the creator is given this choice, Groups are mostly private. Facebook Groups are intended for teams, clubs, groups of friends, classes, and other things such as these. Groups are made for smaller amounts of people. Groups are great for discussing topics of interest between you and the other group members. For example, I am in a private group that consists of people who played soccer at my former school. This is a great way to communicate with former teammates and alum of the school.
Whether you Like a Page or are a member of a Group on Facebook, they are both ways to connect with others. They allow you to connect with people who have similar interests and to find out the latest on various topics (ex. the Red Sox page publishes up-to-date news about the team).
