Facebook "likes" vs. "friends" vs. "shares"

Facebook's own definition of Friend
On Facebook you have friends, you can like posts, and you can share posts. In order to find friends on Facebook you can search for someone you know, look in the "People You May Know" section, or even look through the "mutual friends" section. By becoming someone's friend on Facebook, it enables you to see the content that they post or in other words, their activity on Facebook (depending on their privacy settings). They will also be able to see anything you post or share.
Facebook's own definition of "Like"
Another feature on Facebook is the "Like" button. By clicking the Like button on a post, it shows that you like the content of the post and agree with it without having to comment on it. When you "Like" a post, sometimes it will be posted to your timeline that you liked the post. Your Facebook friends will be able to see that you liked it depending on your settings. Liking a post can also be a way to connect with people. For example if you like a post from the New England Patriots Facebook page, then it will be seen by thousands of people. Some fellow fans may add you or vice versa. Again, this all depends on your own settings.

One last feature that is available on Facebook is the "Share" button. Sharing a post means that you will be posting another authors post on your timeline. This will allow your friends to see the post even if they aren't friends with the original author. This is a great way to spread information and news stories.
