Assignment 2-1: What is Immersive Education?

In this part of the video Professor Walsh is explaining what Immersive Education is. He explains "in a nutshell" that Immersive Education is a suite of technologies. The image shows the technologies that make up Immersive Education.

In this part of the video Professor Walsh is showing the viewers an example of Immersive Education. This particular example shows a class field trip to a virtual aquarium. Professor Walsh mentions that this school does not have sufficient funds to provide these students with field trips to zoos or aquariums so he was asked to take these students on a virtual tour of an aquarium. The students are able to become each fish and learn about that species as well as the environment in which they live in.

This part of the video shows a Smithsonian researcher at the dock in which this class is touring through in the virtual world. This shows how Immersive Education can make students feel as if they took a field trip to various places without the school spending all the money to do so. Immersive Education is interactive and also allows the students to be in contact with professionals such as this Smithsonian researcher.

This part of the video is showing a historical tour through this virtual world. Students are using a track pad to the right of the screen to tour the city (Krakow) in a horse drawn wagon. The track pad allows the students to look around the city as they are going through it.

This is an assignment from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc
